Discussion Forum Activity

Forum Title: The Line Between Education and Influence

Instructions for Learners: "Read the following scenario and post your response to the forum. After posting, you must reply to at least two of your peers' posts to encourage healthy debate."

The Scenario: The Department of Business at your college wants to convince the Ministry of Education to increase funding for digital tools in TVET institutions. One group of trainers suggests launching a social media campaign called '#DigitalTVET' to show the public how students benefit from tech. Another group suggests sending a formal delegation to the Budget Committee to argue for a 5% increase in the specific ICT Infrastructure Bill.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Which of these activities is Advocacy, and which is Lobbying? Explain your reasoning.

  2. In your specific technical field (e.g., Computer Studies or HR), identify one "Gap" that requires advocacy. Who would be your Primary Target for change?

  3. Why is it often more effective to form a Coalition rather than advocating alone?

4. Summary for E-Portfolio

  • Task: Download the "Stakeholder Power Map" template.

  • Artifact: Fill in the map for a local issue in your community and upload it to your "Advocacy and Lobbying" folder.
